Issaquah
Issaquah is a city located in the beautiful state of Washington, 20 miles northeast of Seattle. The city's rich history, vibrant culture, and natural beauty make it an ideal place for a weekend getaway or longer vacation. The city's name comes from a Native American word meaning "blue waters." Issaquah's blue waters are featured at Lake Sammamish State Park, which offers camping, fishing, boating, and swimming. The park also has over 100 miles of hiking trails that lead through forests and along riverside waterfalls.
Issaquah is home to many wineries where visitors can taste local wines while enjoying breathtaking views of Mount Rainier in the distance. Other attractions include the Issaquah Alps Trail Club's hiking trails and summit climbs; the Snoqualmie Valley Historical Museum; and several festivals throughout the year including an annual "Oktoberfest."
The downtown area of Issaquah is home to a variety of interesting stores, restaurants, and other attractions. The Historic Downtown Issaquah Association offers guided walking tours that highlight the city's history and showcase its wonderful array of shops and restaurants. Visitors can also explore the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, which was founded in 1889 and remains one of the oldest hatcheries in the United States. Here they learn about salmon life cycles and view fish in their natural habitat.
Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is a 640-acre park located in Issaquah, Washington. It offers miles of trails, horseback riding and picnicking. The park's trails are open to hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. The most popular trail is the Cougar Mountain Trail Loop, which is 1.5 miles long and climbs nearly 700 feet.
The horseback riding program at the park offers guided trail rides on the trails around Cougar Mountain that are open to riders. Riders must be at least 8 years old to participate in these rides and must wear a helmet at all times while on the trails. Riders must also sign a waiver before they ride, which can be downloaded from the park's website.
One of the most popular attractions in Issaquah is the Issaquah Alps. This is a group of mountains that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Visitors can take a hike to the summit of Grand Prospect, which is the highest point in the Alps. On a clear day, the views of the Cascade Mountains, Seattle skyline, and Lake Sammamish are absolutely stunning.
The Issaquah Alps are also home to several waterfalls including Squak and Little Squak Falls which are both located off Interstate 90 on Squak Mountain Road. These falls are very popular with photographers who come to capture their beauty during spring when there are still snowcaps visible on surrounding peaks but temperatures are warm enough for waterfalls to flow freely into pools below them.
Issaquah is a great place to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. The city is situated between two lakes and adjacent to the Cascade Mountains, which provides plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. If you're looking for something less strenuous than hiking or mountain biking, there are plenty of trails throughout the city that connect to parks and open spaces. If you prefer not to exercise outside, there are also several indoor gyms available in Issaquah as well.
